About Midwest Accounting & Tax

Experienced accountants.
People you can talk to.

We built Midwest Accounting & Tax around a simple idea: you should understand your finances and feel comfortable asking the people who help you manage them.

Our story

A long friendship.
A shared way of working.

We’ve been friends since second grade, back when homework was done in pencil and budgeting meant deciding whether to spend our money at the book fair or the bake sale.

That friendship taught us how to work together, trust each other, and talk things through. We bring that same approach to Midwest and the relationships we build with clients.

We combine business and accounting experience with a down-to-earth approach. We handle the details, explain the decisions, and make space for your questions. Wherever you’re starting, we’ll help you find a practical way forward without making you feel bad about where things stand.

Frequently Asked Questions

A few things you
might be wondering.

You don’t need to know the accounting terms to ask a good question. Here are a few answers to help you get started.

You’re virtual. How does that work?

We work with you online, so there’s no drive to an office or stack of paperwork to drop off. We meet through Google Meet and use our secure client portal to exchange documents. You still work directly with Breanne and Tyler. You’ll have our cell phone numbers and email addresses, so you won’t be waiting weeks to hear from us.

How do we meet?

You can join Google Meet from a computer, tablet, or smartphone. Pick a time through our booking page, and your confirmation will include the meeting details. Book a Free Appointment ↗

How do I securely send documents?

Once we agree to work together, we’ll show you how to use our secure client portal and let you know what we need. Please use the secure client portal for tax documents and sensitive information. We will not accept any tax documents sent via email.

What happens after I schedule?

You’ll meet with Breanne and Tyler so we can get to know you, understand your needs, and talk about how we can help. We’ll explain the next steps. A general idea of what you need is enough for the first conversation; you don’t need to have everything organized.

What affects pricing?

Our pricing isn’t one-size-fits-all because your business and your needs are unique. For businesses, we consider transaction volume, number of accounts, the condition of your books, and how much reporting and support you need. For individual returns, the required forms, filing states, and complexity all affect the fee. We’ll explain what’s included and what it costs before you commit.

What if I still use QuickBooks Desktop?

We work best with QuickBooks Online. If you currently use QuickBooks Desktop, we can help you move your file to QuickBooks Online.

How does QuickBooks Online setup work?

We set up your file for tracking business income and expenses and preparing reports. You can choose setup only or add up to three hours of training and assistance. The QuickBooks Online subscription is separate from either package. See setup options ↗

Can you help with a QuickBooks Online subscription?

Yes. Ask us about subscription options through our accountant relationship before you sign up. Eligible subscriptions may qualify for preferred pricing. We’ll confirm the plan, current price, billing arrangement, and any conditions with you first.

Which appointment should I choose?

Choose Business Appointments for bookkeeping, a business tax return, business setup, or advisory support. Choose Individual Tax Preparation & Tax Planning Appointments if you only need your personal income tax return (Form 1040) prepared or if you’re looking for tax planning or review services. If you’re unsure, choose the option that sounds closest and we’ll help you sort it out.
